Once each year, the Grüner Markt in the middle of the old town is transformed, lending Rothenburg the atmosphere of a wine-making village: here local restaurants team up with their partner winemakers to serve up a wide range of top-quality local wines and non-alcoholic drinks. These are accompanied by regional specialties as well as award-winning cooking, providing a welcome opportunity for sparkling conversation in a relaxed summer atmosphere.
Over 70 different types of wine are served by the participating restaurants and winemakers. These include top-quality wines from classic grapes such as Silvaner and Müller-Thurgau. However, specially selected rarities such as Trockenbeerenauslese (made from grapes picked later than the general harvest and affected by noble rot) or ice wine (made from grapes that have frozen on the vine prior to picking) can also be tasted. The creative hospitality of the Wine Festival will ensure that dedicated gourmets are guaranteed genuine pleasure from start to finish.
Each day you can expect to enjoy a different musical entertainment program, ranging from folk music to chansons, jazz and brass to rock and pop.
Our region’s centuries-old winemaking tradition enjoys a fresh, new vitality in a wonderful almost Mediterranean atmosphere.
