To know what beauty is, go forth into nature, where you will find it." Albrecht Dürer
This advice from the famous master artist hits the nail of the head – the magic of Rothenburg and its surroundings becomes evident as you explore!
For many people this is something new, while others have known it for a long time: Rothenburg has an unusually beautiful and close-knit network of marvelous walking routes. Thirteen fully signposted and well-maintained walking routes invite you to explore the medieval town and its former ramparts around Rothenburg on foot. The route along the European continental divide is among Germany’s longest and most beautiful walking routes, taking you past Rothenburg on your way from Ansbach to Schnelldorf. So, what are you waiting for?
Throughout the year an approximately two-hour guided hiking tour, including a stop off for refreshments and singing, is held every Wednesday (except Holidays) in the area surrounding Rothenburg. It is organized by the ‘Wednesday Hikers’. Participation in these hiking tours is free of charge. The meeting point is the Marktplatz fountain at 2 pm.
Each year in spring and fall, the Rothenburg Hiking Weeks offer a great natural experience.
