A town for the whole family

Between Whitsun and the beginning of September, Rothenburg ob der Tauber is transformed into a unique open-air theater. Public squares and hidden corners of the medieval town provide the venue for music, dance and theatrical presentations in a uniquely atmospheric setting. Among the highlights of the calendar of events is the historic festival play entitled “The Master Draught" (every year at Whitsun): every year hundreds of townsfolk wearing original costumes and using impressive props reenact a dramatic episode from Rothenburg’s history dating back to the Thirty Years’ War.

A town for gourmets of every age and taste

The fact that Rothenburg also has plenty to offer from a culinary perspective is also evident at the Rothenburg Wine Festival in August. On warm summer evenings, the Church Square is transformed into a friendly piazza, where light Silvaner wine and tasty finer food are served. Fairytale fans can look forward to November! The whole town is dedicated to tales of wonder for the Rothenburg fairytale magic. Top-class concerts, the "Toppler-Theater" open-air theater in the idyllic northern courtyard of the Imperial Town Museum, the Imperial City Festival in September and much, much more round off the schedule. The Christmas Market at the end of the year is regarded by those in the know as one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in the country thanks to its remarkable setting and intimate atmosphere.

Immerse yourself in a different world: leave the hustle and bustle of contemporary life behind you - outside the town gates.
