Where is the city wall, please?

Many people ask themselves this question - but the answer is so simple! The city wall surrounds the old town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber for around four kilometers. You can follow it via the Rothenburger Turmweg. This leads around the city and provides information on information boards about the towers, their significance and their special features. If you are interested, it is best to ask at the Tourist Information on the market square for the Turmweg brochure (also available in English): The brochure describes the entire route and the sights on it in detail. Rothenburg ob der Tauber – a city of towers

A total of 46 historical towers can be found in the old town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Why Rothenburg is called the “Franconian Jerusalem” becomes clear when you look north at the northern old town from the Kalkturm in the Spitalviertel. The location above the slope as well as the tower silhouette of Jacob's Church, town hall tower, Franciscan church and castle gate remind many of the view of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. As a city of towers and a medieval city center, Rothenburg is on a par with the Italian city of San Gimignano (Tuscany).
