Just hang out, work off some energy and get a feel for climbing - Andrea Sichert and her team are happy about a luxury forest in the climbing forest in Rothenburg ob der Tauber.

In Rothenburg ob der Tauber you will come into close contact with koalas, owls and gorillas - no, the city does not have a zoological garden or wildlife park. But the offering from Andrea Sichert and her team in the climbing forest is also aimed primarily at families. And the names of the 14 courses, which lead into the trees of Rothenburg at various levels of difficulty, provide the animal introduction. “The Koala is suitable for children aged 9 and over, the Fledermaus is our trickiest route for children aged 12 and over,” explains managing director Andrea Sichert, explaining the differentiation. Climbing is primarily done horizontally and not vertically. The Rothenburg climbing forest is located on the Hohenlohe plain; it takes no more than ten minutes by car from the old town via the Eselsbrücke in Taubertal and the Blinksteig. On foot you follow a path from the double bridge towards the wedding forest.

“We received an excellent piece of forest from the municipal forester Daniel Gros, a real luxury forest,” says Andrea Sichert, happy about the optimal conditions at the start in 2011. What makes a forest a luxury forest for climbers? “Here we find trees that have just grown and are at the right distances from one another. She can still justifiably claim today: “We take children and their parents into nature with the climbing adventure, the trees are within reach and the elevated course allows you to change your perspective of the forest without having to go any further to intervene in him.” Sometimes a squirrel even scurries up the trees and sets an outrageous pace for the climbers.

Secured with carabiners and after a short introduction, everyone can find their own pace and level. “A climbing forest is ideal for beginners, for families who want to enjoy moving around in nature with their children and have a playful challenge,” explains Andrea Sichert, explaining that things are very relaxed here. But don't be too relaxed either: the challenge is also available for adults. Especially in the sections where there is some climbing. The record holder is the Gorilla course, which climbs 17 meters high. Andrea Sichert was once a passionate climber herself and traveled a lot on via ferratas. She doesn't get to do that anymore because she once swapped her office job for the climbing forest adventure. And after ten years he says: “I would do everything again the same way I did back then.”

The ruling also applies to the system itself. We learn: No two climbing forests are the same, the solutions in the courses depend on the tree population. Andrea Sichert created the course ten years ago with business partner Dirk Pieper. She is still happy about the location today: “The best reward after a day in the climbing forest is when we just sit there for a moment while cleaning up in the forest and look west at the sunset. Then this is such an incredibly peaceful place and nothing takes you out of your mood. The view of the old town skyline is of course also unique – simply a beautiful place to work.” And especially a nice place to introduce youngsters to climbing.
