Across the valley with a star guarantee

Route: The 102 kilometer long cycle path “Der Klassiker” leads from Rothenburg to Wertheim. The route follows the course of the Tauber until the river flows into the Main in Wertheim. On the way back, take the train to Schrozberg and ride the last 22 kilometers on a flat route along the “Castle Cycle Path” to the starting point.

Sports enthusiasts take the “Der Sportive” route from Wertheim in 5 stages (150 km). Be careful, things can go up and down quite a bit!

Quick fact: It is recommended to divide the route into three daily stages. Part of the “classic” is on the “Romantic Road” and is suitable for everyone, including families and the inexperienced.

From the Tauber to the Danube

Route: The Altmühltal cycle path leads from Rothenburg viawickelsbach, Colmberg, Leutershausen to Gunzenhausen (84 / 73 km). From here via Treuchtlingen, Eichstätt, Beilngries and Riedenburg to Kelheim (another 167 km).

Quick fact: The cycle path is partly paved and leads well signposted in both directions over low-traffic streets and paths. There are more demanding climbs on the Frankenhöhe. The cycle path is suitable for families.

On the way on one of the most varied river cycle paths

Route: The Aischgrund impresses with one of the largest contiguous pond areas in Central Europe with over 7.000 ponds, numerous mills, wells, castles and rock cellars. The 121 km cycle path leads from Rothenburg to Bamberg and connects Central and Upper Franconia.

Quick fact: An altitude difference of only 300 meters along the entire route, mostly natural paths and little traffic give the Aischtal cycle path the rating of “extremely family-friendly”. Route: The long-distance cycle path runs for 500 kilometers parallel to the Romantic Road on lightly trafficked side routes.

Quick fact: The difference in altitude between Würzburg and Füssen is around 600 m.

On the trail of the Bibertbahn

Route: From Fürth to the Altmühlquelle (62km) and on the Aischtalweg / Altmühlweg to Rothenburg ob der Tauber (18km). Until 1993, the Bibertbahn traveled from the Nuremberg metropolitan area to the tranquil Franconian villages. Today you cycle along the former railway line and through the middle of the Frankenhöhe Nature Park.
