The historical festival “The Master Draught”
The historical festival “Der Meistertrunk” takes place in Rothenburg ob der Tauber throughout the old town. The main venues are the festival meadow and the imperial hall.
What? Immerse yourself in days gone by: Every year on the Pentecost weekend, the festival takes up the episode from the 30 Years' War, when the city was conquered by General Tilly's troops and was only saved from destruction by former mayor Nusch. Nusch is said to have emptied 3 1/4 liters at a time, thereby impressing the enemy general. The story is reenacted by historical groups throughout the city and in particular in the play in the Kaisersaal, which has been performed several times.
Quick fact: The festival has been on UNESCO's German list of intangible cultural heritage since 2014.
